PALM SPRINGS RACQUET CLUB

Was created by movie stars for movie stars.

The greatest movie legends of all times made it their playground.

They loved here, laughed here, danced and sang here, as the world looked on through newspaper clippings. It was their safe haven. Their private club, where they were surrounded by their own kind. A place to escape the pressures of Hollywood and let their hair down, and that they did.

THE FAMOUS RACQUET CLUB OF PALM SPRINGS

The club is a memory

It's wildly popular Bamboo Lounge  was a hub of entertainment activity. Whether actively participating at the piano bar, tapping your toe to a trio, or dancing in the ballroom, it was always fun.

Four barstools had reserved plaques for Clark Gable, Charles Farrell, William Powell and Spencer Tracy. You could even stroll over the Clark Gable Bridge and admire the cottages reserved for the stars that bear their name. They had 12 tennis courts, a tennis pro, lessons, tournaments, and lots of fun

Daryn Hinton was someone fortunate enough to have incredible childhood memories from the club. Like as a child watching Jayne Mansfield's date, whom her mother Marilynn Hinton introduced her to, orchestrating breeders to parade their standard poodles around the pool so Jayne could choose her new pet. Or visiting with her godmothers Jane Russell and Bobo Rockefeller by the pool. And later in life sipping a Ramos fizz on the patio with Christina Ferrare  (before Delorean) who went to studio school with Daryn's brother Darby Hinton on the 20th Century Fox lot. Until 1998, Daryn had not been to the club in 20+ years. She wasn't sure it even existed anymore until Linda Christian, who was married to Tyrone Power, (Tyrone named Daryn after his daughter Taryn) invited her to a barbecue by the pool. At that time the incredible memories started to flood back. The magnificent setting, surrounded by the awesome mountains, the beautiful serene grounds; there was magic in the air there.

Some Photos of the celebrity guest at the Racquet Club are displayed on this site for you to see.

Jayne Mansfield at the Racquet club in 1962 with Darby Hinton by the pool. The Racquet club was always filled with actors & movie stars. Darby was one of the youngest child stars that frequented the club. Darby is a veteran actor from age 6 months old. Shortly after this photo was taken he landed the part of Israel Boone, Daniel Boone's son on the Daniel Boone TV show for 6 years. Darby who was also Ian Griffith on Days of our Lives and who has continued acting in movies, TV and producing. He loved the club. It is all about the memories!

Jane Russell, passed away february 28th 2011. Her life, spirit and legacy live on through all that she did, her films, her records and everyone whose life she touched. She had the first gospel hit in the mainstream market in the 50's and stayed close to God throughout her life. She is smiling down from heaven. We LOVE YOU Jane!

Bobo Rockefeller, passed away June 19th 2008. Her life, spirit and legacy live on through her amazing grandchildren who will be incredible movers and shakers in this new generation and will write its history. Bobo joins her wonderful son, Win Rockefeller (Darby Hinton's Godfather), the former Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas and her ex-husband, Winthrop Rockefeller, the former Governor of Arkansas, in heaven. They will be among the mighty cloud of witnesses that watch and cheer on their family as they run the race (Hebrews 12:1). We LOVE YOU BOBO!

THE RACQUET CLUB FEATURED ON A&E TV AND THE TRUE ORIGIN OF THE BLOODY MARY

The Racquet Club was featured on A&E (Arts & Entertainment television Network). The segment is called 'Hollywood Home Movies'. It is about the stars of yester year and featured them with their home movies. So many of them played at the Racquet club. So they interview Daryn Hinto by the Racquet Club Villa's pool, where so much of the fun took place. Along with talking about all of the fun they had, she was also able to clear up the confusion of the origin of the 'Bloody Mary'. It was created at the Racquet Club out of necessity. The consistent party atmosphere called for a 'morning after' remedy and so the Bloody Mary was born out of necessity at the Racquet Club. The owners of the famed 21 club in New York were frequent friends and members who spent a lot of time at the Racquet Club. They took the recipe home to the 21 club and its popularity quickly spread throughout the world!
